There is so much more to visit Cambodia than Angkor Wat. Not far from the ancient-temple area and 13km southeast of Siem Reap provincial town lies the huge Natural Dam (Beong)of Pearaing, one of the most productive freshwater dams located 2 km north of Tonle Sap Lake .
It is a new tourist attraction in Siem Reap that has been officially registered and recognized as an Eco-Tourism site since 2015. With the strong commitment to preserving, protecting and participation of the local villagers, authorities and Buddhist monks, then this place becomes a peaceful home to hundred species of fishes and wetland & water birds and also where the seasonal flooded freshwater swamp forest habitats.
These wetland & water birds can be discovered in here: Asian Open Billed, Painted and Milky Storks, Spot-billed Pelicans, Little Cormorants, Black-winged Stilts,Oriented Darters, Spot-Billed Ducks,Comb Ducks, Grey and Purple Herons, Javan Pond Herons, Terns, Egrets, Bronze-winged Jacana, Purple Swamp hens,Pacific Golden Plovers and more than one hundred species of others.
